2 superpowers that will unlock your hidden potential

Being the best version of yourself and realising your true potential isn't as difficult as it might seem.

There are two things that, once mastered, will empower you to be intentional about the direction you are going in and act like a magnet that attracts positive outcomes and can genuinely change your life, not least your abilities as a music maker.

Self Discipline

The word 'discipline' often carries negativity. It's that thing that happened at school when we didn't do as we were told, or that thing that's really hard work, or that thing that other people have but we don't.

But discipline doesn't have to be difficult!

The secret to mastering self-discipline, is to practice it daily so that it becomes a habit. Habits happen automatically, without conscious thought and without difficulty.

You could try starting with a morning routine - doing something first thing in the morning to set you up for the day, like a cold shower, some exercise ... or write a blog post like I am right now! By regularly practicing the art of discipline, you are making it easier for yourself next time.

Self-discipline helps you do the right thing that is aligned with who you are and where you want to be, not the easiest thing. Next time you feel yourself taking the path of least resistance, ask yourself the question 'Am I doing the easy thing, or the right thing?'

The more you choose to do the right thing, the more that becomes ingrained into you as the default choice of behaviour.

“The first and best victory is to conquer self.”

Plato

Positive Beliefs

Belief is a powerful tool and dictates everything we do. We believe what we see, we believe what we're told and we believe what we learn. Without it, the world would be very confusing!

But with great power comes great responsibility. If we believe the wrong things and we practice believing these things over and over they can have a negative impact on our life. Blind faith can lead us off the edge of a cliff and destructive beliefs can eat away at our confidence.

Luckily the opposite is also true. If we believe in our ability that we can do what we choose to do, in our ability to master our own self discipline and that we have everything we need to be the best version of ourselves, then it becomes a superpower.

The good news is that, just like self-discipline, practice is the key to establishing positive beliefs. The simple act of repeating a desired belief to yourself, every day has the effect, over time, of manifesting itself as a true belief.

Choosing what to believe in is important too! Beliefs that are aligned with who you are, where you want to go, are based on sound information and benefit the world around you will ensure that you make progress in the right direction.

“It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.”

Muhammad Ali

By combining self-discipline with positive beliefs you can create an exponential loop of positive behaviour, reinforced through regular practice.

The part of your life you can't control is chance, so it pays to put yourself in a situation where you have the most chance of being lucky. Mastering these superpowers helps you do just that.

It won't happen overnight and it's something that you can improve on for the rest of your life, but it all starts with one single decision and a commitment to practice.

Why not start today?! 😀
